There are a few hidden gems in Harrogate. You can learn a lot about our town by attending a walking tour with my pal Harry . One such place is The Harrrogate Club AKA The Club. It has been around since 1857 and has a rich and fascinating history. I am from Starbeck and lived in the area until I was 18 and then again from my early 30s. It wasn’t until 2015 that I heard of this amazing place.
In late ’15 Tracey and I were invited to give a presentation about our upcoming Trans USA bike ride and my work with MSF. We went to The Club on the evening in question and were blown away by both the kind reception we received and the spectacular surroundings.
After the USA ride I joined The Club as I needed a place away from home where I could
focus on my social media and fundraising. I am also working on the manuscript of a second book.
Last week Tracey and I spoke to Kevin – the club President. I wanted to ask if there was any way that our fundraiser could be circulated among the members. I had not anticipated such a positive and generous response. The management already planned to show solidarity with the people of Ukraine as they resist Russian aggression and are now flying the Ukrainian flag at 36 Victoria Avenue. They have also se up two streams of fundraising – one for MSF via our project ‘Ride to the Rock’ and one for the DEC .
I want to thank all at The Harrogate Club but especially Kevin for their support and kindness in helping people who are suffering in Ukraine and in over 70 countries where MSF have projects.
