Day 1

24th May 2016

So here we go, the bike ride proper. It was a beautiful day, warm and sunny. We made it to the Golden Gate Bridge after picking the bikes up from John at Market Street Cycles.

A quick photo at the bridge and we were off. We passed through some stunning scenery, wide open grass lands as well as some severe hills in places.

We passed vineyards and orange trees, oranges lay on the floor. Next time our names will be on two of them but we had to press on.

We arrived at Solano Lake (43 miles) quite late but set the tent up before we lost the light.

We met two very nice guys called Wyatt and Alex who kindly shared beer and hot dogs (for Tracey) .

We turned in absolutely drained at about 2230.

We were woken initially about 0400 by a scream, a soul shattering scream – resident peacocks waking up!

We managed to sleep again after this waking about 0715.  I’ll try to blog today’s ride from Lake Solano to Fulsom (as in Johnny Cash) later on so I stay on track.
