I am very sorry that I havent posted for sometime on the website. I have been pretty mad busy these last few weeks. It is always difficult to go away from family and friends and the goodbyes only seem to get harder. So, I head down to London on Friday and after briefings I will be out on the town with my good pals Lenka and JJ. I know they are intending to send me away with a killer hangover. What they are not taking into account is that I am a mature responsible adult and will be carefully adhering to Government guidelines on safe drinking.
I fly to Addis Ababa on Saturday evening at 2100. Then on to Juba the capital of South Sudan before moving on to the north and the town of Leer.
I am very much looking forward to meeting the team already working at the hospital and feeding centre. I have spoken to the Medical team leader and the Project Coordinator and they were very nice which makes the prospect of arriving in a new place much easier. I know that the next few months are going to be very challenging for me. I will be working in the Therapeutic Feeding Centre (TFC) in Leer. I have not worked with children since my last MSF mission and it will take me a while to get used to the care of these very vulnerable people. I will however be a better nurse and a better person for this mission and once I get to grips with it all I am sure it will be a very rewarding experience.
On a somewhat lighter note, our good friends at MediaCake have sent over their superb video from the last Burlesque Without Borders fundraiser. Check this:
Thank you to Lyndsay and Kristian for their magnificent work for us and therefore for MSF and of course huge gratitude as always to THE Lily La Belle.
Finally I want to say a huge thank you to all of my friends and family (this is getting a bit oscar ceremony here!) for all of their support and I look forward to seeing you in December. Please continue to support MSF and keep an eye on this blog as I will update it as much as I can IF it is possible on the mission. If not, Ill tell all later.
Take care Andy
