Lons le Saunier to Clairvaux les lacs

This has probably been the toughest days walking so far. I knew that the navigation was going to be an issue but only guessed at the physical challenge of the hills. I followed a GR (Grande Randonee or long walking route) which took me south east out of Lons. It was difficult in the extreme. A pack of 17kg or so didn’t help.

The path was narrow, muddy and ultra steep at times. Add to this the drop away into the valley below and you can understand I was sweating through more than simply exertion.

Putting all of this to one side it was also very beautiful. The views into the valleys and of the tree covered mountains are spectacular. I am very lucky to be seeing these things and I never (hardly) loose sight of this.

I made Clairvaux les lacs about 45 min ago and am waiting for the hotel reception to open. I’ll be posting another blog in a few mins with some great news.
