Day 8

Carson City to Fallon

65 miles pretty flat.

So we left Carson City after breakfast and joined highway 50. This was important as the road will be home for at least 4 days now. Probably as a result of new road build highway 50 is very quiet later on but is still busy in Carson.

As we left, the traffic thinned out significantly.  Not long out of Carson we stopped to talk to a friendly Englishman called Wayne who was instantly good humoured and told me a great joke. While we were chatting we were joined by another UK expat Donny from Northern Ireland who is a former British soldier and a very proud man. Donny invited us to his house for a drink. We happily accepted and Tracey, Wayne and I followed him a short way home. Here he showed us his flags both national and military along with photos from his service. Jerry his wife was lovely & took the photo you see of us. We chatted a while then Tracey & I pushed on to Dayton.

In Dayton we ate some great Mexican grub while we talked through our plan. We made a decision to push the days ride an extra 20 miles to Fallon as it was pretty flat and we need to keep the distances up.

We set off down the 50 once again only to be pulled over a few miles later by a kind and helpful man called Bruce. Bruce gave us Gatorade and chatted a while till we excused ourselves. He did catch us further down the road and again offered refreshments.

Back on the heat shimmering road that is the 50. Definitely less Traffic now as we head past Silver Springs.

8 miles out of Fallon boom! Disaster: Puncture No1. To Mark,Dave, Tristan, Andrew & Paul (Big Red Bike Co , Harrogate), we fixed it just fine thanks to you.

As I had just finished putting in a new tube a car pulled in. The driver Brad greeted us and offered to help. I told him we were just finished and were OK. Brad then asked where we were staying and when I told him we had nothing planned he very kindly offered for us to stay at his house.

With Brad and his  daughter Hannah’s help we found the house where we met his lovely wife Stacey . We were then able to have a shower, we were fed and given a beer, Brad even washed our clothes. A lovely , generous family who have helped two very sweaty and tired cyclists.

We are now settled in our tent on the lawn a perfect end to a varied and wonderful day.
